Retinal Screener

Our friendly and professional Retinal Screening department are looking for a new Retinal Screener/grader to join the team at East & North Hertfordshire Diabetic Eye Screening Programme.

You will be required to work Saturdays and evenings according to the needs of the department.

The post of Retinal Screener/Grader involves working with the Retinal Screening Team, providing a high-quality eye screening service to patients with diabetes in East and North Hertfordshire.

You will carry out retinal photography using special cameras within East & North Hertfordshire.

Cameras are currently sited at The New QE2, The Lister Treatment Centre, Hertford County Hospital, Cheshunt Community Hospital, Royston Hospital, Baldock Health Centre and at 2 GP surgeries in Hitchin and Sawbridgeworth.

Cover may be required at any of these sites.

Our aim is to prevent vision loss by the early identification of diabetic retinopathy; therefore, it is important to us that our patients receive an exemplary service and attend for their appointments.

You will be joining a friendly and professional team, dedicated to providing the best possible service.

The post holder will check the patient's vision, put eye drops in and then take digital photographs of the eyes.

A friendly and reassuring manner is essential.

The post holder will then be responsible for initial interpretation of the photographs: this is an important part of the job and requires a high level of concentration and attention to detail.

Previous photographic experience is desirable. Full in-house training will be provided, and the post holder must undertake to work towards passing the Level 3 Diploma for Health Screeners.
