Trainee Children and Young People’s Wellbeing

**Main purposes of the job**
To provide low intervention therapeutic support and services to children, young people and their families.
- **Accountability**
Reports to Service Manager and Clinical Supervisor.
- **Key Tasks**
To work collaboratively with children, young people and families within a school setting to facilitate shared decision making; and delivering brief, low intensity, evidence-based interventions on a one to one or group basis.
- To work in partnership with parents/carers to empower them and to enable them to achieve better outcomes for their children.
- To collaborate effectively with other professionals.
- To assess and engage children, young people and families where there is a concern regarding common mental health difficulties
- To deliver effective low intensity interventions with children, young people and families.
- To be responsible for case note recording, contributing to case reports.
- To attend a university course at Northampton University
- To undertake case management supervision, clinical skills supervision and university supervision.
- To contribute to service development.
- Agrees with the aims of Relate and committed to anti-discriminatory practice.
- Good knowledge of ethical, legal and professional issues in working with children and young people.

- Full driving license, willing to travel and access to a car
**Job Title: Trainee Children and Young People’s Wellbeing Practitioner**
**Education/Knowledge**
- A Degree in a social science
- Child Protection Training
- Safeguarding Training
**Experience**
- A good amount of experience working with children, young people and families in a helping profession.
- Experience of providing brief interventions for children, young people and families.
**Skills/Abilities/Qualities**
- The ability to listen and communicate effectively with children, young people, families and school staff.
- Able to work as part of a team.
- Able to record case notes deploying the necessary standard of writing and IT skills accurately and clearly.
- Have a driving licence, access to a car and willing to commute to Northampton University on a regular basis as well as various school placements.
- Positive, proactive, reflective, assertive, robust and flexible
- To act as a representative for the organisation.
- To be able to commit to 2 years with the organisation in order to complete the qualification and post qualification training placement.
- The ability to study at level 6 standard.
- To attend supervision.
- To be able to manage own caseload.
- To work under pressure to achieve course requirements.
- Willing to undertake mandatory safeguarding training.

During the first year, your time will be split between clinical work, attending your training institution and completing supervision.
After successful completion of the course, you will then be able to work as a Children and Young People’s Wellbeing Practitioner (CYPWP) for Relate.
CYPWPs support children and young people by delivering low intensity psychological treatments which place a greater emphasis on parent and CYPWP self-management. The interventions are informed by behaviour change models and strategies. Examples of interventions include low-intensity self-help interventions informed by cognitive-behavioural principles. CWPWPs includes significant skills training in parenting intervention and focuses on supporting families where there is concern about CYP’s low mood, self-harm, anxiety, and conduct related difficulties.
The training involves teaching blocks as well as weekly teaching and supervision days at University. Workplace supervision will also be provided.
Pay: From £25,587.00 per year
