**About the role**:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Workshop Supervisor at the Department of Space and Climate Physics (Mullard Space Science Laboratory), University College London (UCL). The job will involve liaising with design engineers, project managers and managing the allocation of mechanical work in the workshop (in conjunction with the co-supervisor).

The post holder will work together with other engineers in the group to have work carried out in the workshop, meeting the challenging requirements of space hardware projects.

The post holder will support assembly work in cleanrooms and support tests by manufacturing and assembling test jigs. The work carried out is important to the department, correctly functioning space instrumentation is instrumental in receiving the science data back on earth, ready to be processed and analysed by the project scientists.

A key responsibility is for health and safety in the workshop including completion of accident forms, drafting of risk assessments for mechanical workshop related activities including one per area - welding shop, chemical laboratory and mechanical workshop.

**About you**:
The post requires an individual who can focus on efficiency. Effective management is required to oversee the workshop so it can deliver the quality components required within the given project timeline and in a cost-effective manner. Also required is the management of the staff in the workshop with regard to their appraisals and the maintenance of manufacturing equipment as well as the introduction of new equipment.

Applicants must have an ONC level degree, tool maker. In-depth knowledge of workshop practises with regard to machining and turning of parts is essential, including a working knowledge of cleaning parts and of standard surface treatments like Alodine, anodize and Surtec and the ability to interpret engineering drawings and CAD models.
