Education providers working to a shared educational framework across secondary, further, higher education and beyond - We share a passion: to provide excellent, accessible, supportive and flexible education that creates better life chances from enhanced career outcomes to improved health and wellbeing. **Client Details** - As part of the Health Safety and Resilience Team, the post holder will ensure the University complies with current health and safety legislation and approved codes of practice and guidance and provides advice on fire safety obligations. - The post-holder will proactively monitor and maintain a system that promotes a culture of safe working practices across the University community. - In addition to basic salary, the role also attracts an allowance of £1200 per annum for being part of the rota of "On Call University Duty Manager". **Description** A Health and Safety Advisor will do the following - To provide professional health and safety advice and information to academic schools and professional services, - including legislation and general good practice. - To produce high-quality management reports for Group and local Committees and present findings, observations and data to relevant audiences. - Contribute to developing and revising health and safety policies and procedures and support the Head of Group Health, Safety and Resilience by reviewing amendments. - To liaise with senior management and Departmental Health and Safety Representatives, Trade Union Representatives, Staff and Students as appropriate in implementing the university's health and safety policies. - To provide health and safety input and consultation to the Estates and Academic Environment department regarding changes in the design and construction of new buildings and the modification of existing buildings on matters affecting health and safety. - To attend school and professional service groups local health and safety committees as part of health and safety input and performance monitoring. - To keep abreast of changes in health and safety legislation and best practices and follow a programme of continuing professional development to maintain a high standard of professional expertise. - Participate in a rota of being the "On Call University Duty Manager". This may cover 1700-0830 hrs Mon to Fri and at Weekends, Public and University Closure days). The postholder will be required to be available to provide advice and management guidanceover the telephone to staff on-site to deal with any incidents or emergencies that may affect the University Estate. - To liaise with external companies to provide services and goods to meet the fire safety needs of the organisation, such as fire risk assessments, fire safety and evacuation equipment. - To provide consultation on high risk and specialist issues and to delegate remedial tasks to the responsible person/department as required. - To schedule, plan and monitor a sufficient number of fire drills for all buildings and report and record outcomes to implement and improve the fire evacuation process. - To monitor and update the Organisation's Fire Action Plan notices and search zones and oversee the preservation of signage across campus. - To procure and supply Reception Services with first aid provisions and monitor these provisions once distributed across campus, ensuring equipment and supplies are in good serviceable order and compliant. - To liaise and consult with the first aid at a work training provider, the Academy of Sport, to meet staff training demands and ensure the retention of first aiders within the organisation. - To undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade and purpose of the role. **Profile** The Successful Health and Safety Advisor - Honours Degree or equivalent experience - Proven track record in health and safety management - minimum of NEBOSH General Certificate qualified, or willingness to undertake training - Experience of Fire Safety management - Excellent written and interpersonal skills, including the ability to challenge constructively - Effective team working and networking skills and the ability, using own initiative - The ability to work independently - plan, prioritise and organise own workload - Experience of working to tight deadlines - Experience of working in an HE environment - Demonstrable proficiency in general office software **Job Offer** Health and Safety Advisor benefits £1.2k extra on top of annual salary London working
