Are you passionate about basic statistical tests? Could share your knowledge on common research designs employed in psychological experimentation? Birkbeck, University of London, is seeking an Associate Lecturer to join the School of Psychological Sciences next Spring 2025.

We have an excellent opportunity for an Associate Lecturer to teach the module:

- SCPS154S4 Introduction to Research Methods and level 4
- 60 hours teaching
- Wednesday afternoons 2-5pm and evenings 6-9pm, Term 2.

This module offers an introductory level exploration of research methods as employed in contemporary psychological research with a focus on quantitative statistical approaches, and includes experimental design, ethics, basic descriptive statistics and inferential statistics (including chi-square test, t-tests, non-parametric tests and one-way ANOVA). Full materials for all lectures will be provided.

Your role will be to deliver teaching to Birkbeck students, in order to enable them to complete their studies successfully, and to undertake all related course administrative duties as required. Your main responsibility will be preparation, teaching, administration and assessment of the Introduction to Research Methods module, which is a Level 4 module offered as a compulsory part of our BPS-accredited BSc Psychology programme. You'll also be working closely with the module convenors to organise, deliver and assess the module.

Further to the person specification, essential requirements for this role are:

- Experience of lecturing to groups of up to 120 students.
- MSc in Psychology or a related area (required); PhD preferred.

**Salary and benefits**

Payment is based on an hourly rate for contact hours worked. The specific rate depends on length of continuous service with the College and includes of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay. This hourly rate of **£68.13 per hour** is based on the starting point of Grade 7 and is inclusive of a ‘Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier’ which covers preparation, teaching, administration, assessment marking and other examining duties in connection with the course.

**Contract**

Part-time, 6 month fixed-term contract. 20 teaching sessions on Wednesday either 2-5pm or 6-9pm (January to July 25) - according to a pre-defined teaching schedule (teaching is shared with the module convenors). Closing date**:Sunday 1 December 2024**. Interview date: Monday 9 December 2024.
