An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Paediatric Respiratory Physiology Team at Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust as an Specialist Respiratory Physiologist.

The post holder will be a key member of the Respiratory Physiology team, who provide a first class respiratory function testing service to the Respiratory clinics and wards. The Respiratory Physiology team are a fantastic team, who work as an integrated part of the Respiratory MDT clinical service, produce reliable and accurate diagnostic data and contribute the improved clinical outcomes for children and young people referred to the service..
- To autonomously undertake a wide spectrum routine and specialist respiratory function tests and physiological measurements.
- To perform calibration and quality control procedures on all laboratory equipment.
- To work collaboratively with other team members in the Respiratory and Sleep department.
- To be a source of expertise and supervise / train other clinical colleagues.

TECHNICAL
- To record calibration and quality control data to ensure that all equipment is functioning to agreed standards and specifications.
- To autonomously perform the full spectrum of respiratory function and exercise tests.
- To analyse and report on the respiratory data, providing expert advice to Consultant staff formulating the management plan for the child.
- To have skill and expert knowledge in the use of all equipment used for recording respiratory function parameters.
- To be responsible for the safe and competent use of all equipment.

PROFESSIONAL
- To assess capacity for consent with all patients and whenever possible ensure that valid informed consent is agreed with the patient / family working within the legal framework.
- To possess efficient communication and interpersonal skills required to ensure the delivery of effective interventions, taking into account the complexity and variety of difficulties presented e.g. age, physical, emotional, cultural, cognitive, social and behavioural.
- To work as a member of the multi-disciplinary Respiratory team where shared skills will form part of the working practice, and act as a source of physiological expertise to the team.
- To communicate effectively with patients and carers to maximise a patients engagement with all testing.
- To work closely alongside peers to ensure optimal learning and development opportunities for both self and the service.
- To manage clinical risk in line within the Trust guidelines.
- To provide evidence of continuous professional development in the form of a portfolio, which includes the identification of learning needs through reflective practice.
- To have an up to date knowledge of the relevant literature and published research to inform, measure and evaluate your work and current practice.

EDUCATION AND RESEARCH
- To ensure all mandatory training is completed and updated as required by the Trust
- To actively participate in audit and research activity.

ORGANISATIONAL
- To keep up-to-date and comply with Trust Procedures and Policies including Health & Safety, Fire Regulations, Equal Opportunities etc
- To propose changes in policy or procedure that would enhance the provision of a high quality Respiratory Service.
- To be responsible for checking the safety of any diagnostic equipment provided before use.
- To be responsible for reporting any equipment defects identified, accidents and complaints and using Trust procedures to deal with them.
- To maintain a high standard of confidentiality at all times.
- To comply with Clinical Governance guidelines.
- To deal with informal complaints in line with the Trust guidelines.
