Serco have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Manager to join the existing team based in Greenock. The Naval support contract is delivered across 3 main UK locations and there is a need for a departmental lead for the Scotland region in managing the Scotlandbased fleet and technical support team. The position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a diverse fleet of some 24 vessels and the monitoring of condition and performance.

The role will exercise local control of engineering spend essential to the overall financial health of the business. The role will also manage the Flag and Class Certification and Survey status, spares availability, maintenance planning and delivery to thePlanned Maintenance System.

**Main Accountabilities**:

- Continuously monitor business plans, financial plans and targets taking appropriate action to ensure technical targets are met, including submitting accurate and timely reports
- Recognising Contract Managers as the internal customer in support of Contract performance deliverables.
- Driving operational efficiency, technical and assurance continuous improvements initiatives and engineering best practice across the Contract.
- Identifying, developing and implementing strategy and plans for the effective management of technical risks taking into account latest regulatory requirements
- Manage risk to ensure refits/maintenance schedule has minimum impact on operational capability
- Supporting the development and implementation of plans in alignment with the Contract’s Technical objectives.
- Development and delivery of technical strategies aimed at maintenance and improvement of service to the customer.
- Holding the relationship with local regulatory Authorities.
- Holding the relationship with key Suppliers & Contractors, monitoring and reporting on performance.

**What you’ll need to do the role**:

- Qualified to at least Class I Certificate of Competency and/or have a Degree in an Engineering related discipline.
- Developed Engineering professional with an understanding and experience of engineering and technical processes in the Marine Industry.
- Project and programme management expertise.
- The post is to have at least 5 years relevant shore based technical experience to include, technical management, knowledge of port and vessel operations, maintenance, Flag and Class requirements/regulations.
- Detailed knowledge and experience of ISM Code requirements.
- Detailed knowledge and familiarity with ISO 9001 and 14000
- Familiarity and positive attitude to Computerised Planned Maintenance Systems.
- Experience in the use of IT systems and MS Office suite
- Extensive experience as sea-going Chief Engineer.
- Experience of successful people management and team development.
- Commercial acumen.
- Budgetary management experience.
- Experience of operating successfully within Technical Ship Management environments.
