**Technical Advisor | Paddock Wood, Kent | 37.5 Per Week | 8.30am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday | Starting from £27,244 per annum (negotiable dependant on experience)**

The Upper Medway IDB is a leading flood risk management authority in the Medway catchment. Working under the Land Drainage Act, we perform statutory support works to control water movements in the local flood zones.

The Upper Medway IDB is seeking an enthusiastic, motivated, and dedicated person as a Technical Advisor.

The role acts as a bridge between the Clerk and the office team, providing support and cover to all areas of the business, while offering a chance for personal progression and learning within this exciting industry.

Working alongside the Clerk and Finance Officer, you will provide vital technical information while also working on key strategic projects to aid the Board in the achievement of its flood risk management objectives.

**Are you the right person for us?**
- Experience with Microsoft Office suite
- Experience within local government, a water management/ecology/conservation-based role, and/or in local and national planning frameworks would be advantageous but not essential
- Full UK driving licence

**What will your role as a Technical Advisor look like?**
- Provide technical advice to the Clerk, the Board, and the public in relation to residential and industrial planning proposals, water and flood management, statutory issues (Land Drainage Act 1991), and any other relevant engineering-based topics
- Assist the Clerk with the digital GIS mapping system
- Use and maintain the company’s online data systems
- Maintain rating and financial systems with the Finance Officer and Clerk
- Attend Board meetings and take minutes where required
- Provide creative solutions to issues arising both in the office and on-site
- Work with all members of staff to improve systems, methods, and failings
- Aid the Clerk and Finance Officer with enforcement of the Board’s bye-laws
- Oversight and upkeep of Health and Safety systems in conjunction with the Clerk and Depot Leader (training to be provided where necessary)
- Work with the Clerk and H+S Committee to ensure the Board activities comply with legislation
- Assist the Clerk and Depot Leader with work programming, ecology enhancement, and organisation of staff where needed
- Liaise with landowners, utility companies and all interested parties where required
- Provide advice on land drainage issues as per riparian (common) law and the Land Drainage Act 1991
- Procure, manage, and oversee contracts secured under public sector agreement
- Take on field-based tasking as required
- Carry out periodic surveying of watercourses and assets
