We have a fantastic role for a Junior Buyer to join our Pet Buying Team. This is one of the largest categories in the whole of B&M Retail so needs someone who is really driven and thrives in fast-paced environment. It’s an opportunity to manage sub-categories in entirety so is a great role for either an existing Junior Buyer or Buyer who is keen to join a large, FTSE 100 retailer or an Assistant Buyer ready for step to Junior Buyer. This category consists of leading Petcare brands but with a growing range of own label products so there is a huge opportunity for development.

Reporting to the Senior Buyer you will source products that will appeal to our customers.

You will also engage and negotiate with suppliers to ensure we have the best range, prices and promotions in the market. This a great first/second buying role to help you develop your buying tool kit with one of the fastest growing retailers in the market.

**The key accountabilities in the role are**:

- Source and manage the product range from initial concept until completion, both from the UK, Europe and Far East sources on own label
- Work with some of the biggest household brand names to ensure we are first to market on new products and have a strong promotion programme
- Weekly review sales of new and existing lines, deciding with the Senior Buyer what lines we should keep or take out of the range
- Build a strong activity plan for the year that maximises key seasonal events
- Work closely with the merchandiser and suppliers to ensure Critical Path is up to date on key events
- Plan & prepare with the Senior Buyer ranges for sign off with the Buying Director
- Work with the Design Team to develop own brand artwork for approval
- This JB role will have buying responsibility for 3 different subcats - so a great opportunity to step up to the next level in preparation for Buyer level.
- Must have a growth mind set, be willing to learn on the job and enjoy having responsibility and accountability for your P & L
- FMCG (Pet) experience/knowledge would be an advantage but not essential
- Already an existing Junior Buyer or Buyer who is keen to join a large, FTSE 100 retailer or an Assistant Buyer ready for step to Junior Buyer.
- Strong negotiation, communication, interpersonal and influencing skills
- Able to build and maintain effective and productive relationships with key stakeholders and suppliers
- Able to utilise data to fully understand customer behaviour and habits and have good excel skills
- Attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks at once and to work well under pressure
- It would also be a big advantage if the applicant loves animals as we know from experience it always bodes well.
