**The service**

The Children in Care Service (CiC) is for any child or young person aged under 18 years old who is in care or accommodated. The child or young person may live with foster carers, in residential homes, residential school, secure units, or with family members away from the family home.

There is a statutory requirement for each child or young person to have a holistic health assessment by a doctor within the first 28 days of becoming Looked After. Over 5’s are seen annually by a Children in Care Nurse unless they have complex health needs and are well known to a Community Paediatrician. Under 5’s are seen every 6 months by a Community Paediatrician.

The Designated Nurse/Doctor also offers health advice and health promotion to the children and young people in care and anyone involved in that persons care.

The Support Secretary/Administrator role is to support the administration process for the Children in care team under the direction of the Children in care and Adoption Supervisor.North Somerset

School Health Nursing Service is a workforce of Specialist Community Public Health Nurses and Registered

Nurses who provide expert advice, support and interventions to children, young people (5 -19) and their families and help empower them to make decisions that affect their families future health and wellbeing.

The service supports and delivers interventions to children, young people (5-19) and their families and help empower them to make decisions that affect their families future health and wellbeing. It works in partnership with multi-disciplinary health teams within community and acute services, local authority and voluntary sector teams to deliver a clinically effective, high quality health service to the school aged population.

**Job Purpose**

To provide comprehensive administrative support to the School NursingChildren in Care team. To act as an effective link across CCHP staff, Schools, Childrens Social Care, GPs, the general public and other relevant bodies.

The post requires organisation, attention to detail and initiative to ensure that the best possible care is delivered to children, young people, their families and that targeted tasks are completed on time.

The post holder will be based in North Somerset at Badger House, and will work closely with administrators in other areas such as Health Visiting, Childrens Continence and the Children Looked After and Care Leavers

**Key Responsibilities**

**The Post Holder will be responsible for**:

- Providing comprehensive secretarial/administration support to the school nursingchildren in care teams across North Somerset.BNSSG
- Undertaking any necessary photocopying, filing, and other administrative duties to ensure the effective running of the office.
- Working flexibly to support other school nursingchildren in care team administrators across the area.
- Data entry of information into pre-populated templates and work based systems.
- Liaising with families, other health professionals and other agencies to make appointments on behalf of and at the request of the school nursingchildren in care team.
- Arranging, organising and co-ordinating the booking of premises for meetings.
- Sensitively dealing with face to face and telephone contact with clients and reporting to the school nurse any necessary information.
- Acting as the central information and contact point for parents/ carers, medical and nursing staff and other agencies and disseminating information as appropriate to the school nursingchildren in care team.
- Responding to client enquiries either written, face-to-face or via the telephone using empathy and judgement.
- Being an effective team member and knowing when to raise any concerns or queries to attention of senior school nursing team memberschildren in care supervisor or coordinator.
- Understanding and maintaining a high standard of confidentiality in line with data protection and

GDPR policies
- Preparing and collating information on the electronic patient record and producing data as requested by the senior management team.
- Initiating systems to aid efficient office management, including taking and recording messages accurately, maintaining and ordering of resources and stock for the school nursingchildren in care team
- Using initiative, prioritising and organising own workload within guidelines as agreed by the team.
- Attending meetings as requested by manager or team. This may include taking and transcribing of formal minutes.
