The Healthcare Science Assistant is a member of the Vascular Testing Team who supports Clinical Vascular Scientists and Technicians to meet the departmental needs. They will have a responsibility to provide care and assistance to patients undergoing vascular ultrasound in the Vascular Testing outpatient department as well as inpatients on the ward, the Emergency Department and peripheral outpatient clinics.

The post holder will aid the Vascular Testing Team in the day to day running of the department, with clinical and administrative tasks to facilitate the throughput of patients attending the department.

The Healthcare Science Assistant will support the Vascular Testing scientist team deliver the diagnostic vascular service at NBT. You will be working directly with patients, following written procedures, ordering stock and any other associated administrative duties to support the team. This role is an apprenticeship with the individual undertaking a work-based Level 2 Diploma in Healthcare Science. This will involve on the job learning as well as teaching and assessments completed as part of the Level 2 Diploma. Apprentices will also complete a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate their learning and skills in practice in accordance with the apprenticeship framework.Completion of the apprenticeship will allow employment as a Healthcare Science Assistant and/or enable access to the Level 4 Healthcare Science Associate apprenticeship. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who wants to work within Healthcare Science as part of a small team and is flexible and adaptable to change. Good communication skills are essential in dealing with a wide range of people you will meet.

North Bristol NHS Trust is the hub for the Major Arterial Centre for the Bristol, Bath and Weston Vascular Network. Vascular Testing is central to the Vascular Network based in the modern Brunel Building at the centre of the redeveloped Southmead Hospital. The hospital is in Bristol which is a busy vibrant and multi-cultural city. We are offering an exciting opportunity for an individual to start a career in Healthcare Science, completing a formal apprenticeship scheme to achieve a Level 2 Diploma in Healthcare Science. We are a progressive enthusiastic and friendly team and work within one of the largest Vascular Networks in the UK. The Vascular Testing team is comprised of 6 clinical vascular scientists, 2 renal specialist nurses, 2 technicians, an STP trainee and an administrator.

Being located at the major arterial and trauma centre in Bristol we are a busy department with an annual work activity of over 10,000 scans per year. The job provides variation with staff required to perform investigations in the outpatient and emergency departments, pre-op medi rooms, on the inpatient wards and peripheral outpatient clinics in surrounding hospitals where required. As part of your Apprenticeship, you will have protected study time of at least 7.5 hrs per week.
