We are looking to recruit a highly motivated medical education fellow in medical education with an interest in simulation training. The aim of this post is to work together with the Postgraduate and Undergraduate Medical Education teams to help coordinate, deliver and develop medical education, across the interdisciplinary spectrum, at our main site, the Princess Alexandra hospital NHS Trust in Harlow.
There will be an emphasis on helping to deliver and support medical simulation training within the department as well as helping deliver medical education to medical students from Queen Mary’s University London (QMUL) and Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) Medical Schools. In addition the successful applicant will be supported in their personal educational development and encouraged to seek opportunities of further postgraduate qualifications in this area.
The successful applicant’s personal development will be mentored and supported through the year and a personal development plan will be developed in conjunction with the Director of Medical Education and/or the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education. A portfolio of achievements will be collected through the year to evidence this plan.
The post holder will be supported by the Medical Education team.
The medical education fellow will help to supervise and work closely alongside a group of FY3 teaching fellows who are employed in joint clinical and educational roles within the trust.
The post is designed to allow full time educational activities but includes time allowance to maintain clinical practice in your chosen speciality area for one day per week, at a level dependant on the applicant’s experience and qualification.
The post holder will be encouraged and supported to further their educational development through the formal study of medical education. Enrolment in a formal programme such as a postgraduate certificate would be supported and time allowed in the programme for study.
Mentoring and development of FY3 Teaching Fellows as educators, providing guidance on planning teaching sessions and mapping to the QMUL/ARU curricula appropriately, providing peer/near-peer review and feedback for all the FY3 Teaching Fellows and any of the junior doctors who are delivering a teaching session.
The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust provides out
- and in-patient care, day case elective surgery and emergency services. The Emergency Department (ED) sees approximately 110,000 patients each year and serves a local population of 270,000 across West Essex and East Hertfordshire. The trust has approx. 450 acute inpatient beds.
**Outpatient services are provided from four sites**: Princess Alexandra, St Margaret’s (Epping), and Herts and Essex (Bishop Stortford) Hospitals and from the Tower Centre Clinic in Hoddesdon. There is general radiology departments at the three main sites, with CT, MRI and Radio-Isotope services based at PAH.
Princess Alexandra Hospital
The post holder will be based at PAH in Harlow. This hospital is within easy walking distance of Harlow Town Centre with good approach roads, and within easy reach of the M11. It was first opened in 1965.

- Paediatrics (including neonatology)
- Trauma and Orthopaedics
- Obstetrics and Gynaecology
- Head and Neck including Ophthalmology, ENT and Maxillo-Facial surgery
- Intensive Care and Anaesthesia.
These services are divided into the Urgent and Ambulatory care, Medical, Surgical and Critical Care and Womens’ and Child Health directorates. Education falls under the remit of the corporate directorate.
