**Lead/Principle Embedded Firmware Engineer**
**Job Type: **Full Time, Permanent
**Salary: **Up to £60,000 per annum
**Location: **Colne, Hybrid Working
Our client is a growing technology-based company, located in the Northwest, which specialises in the design, manufacture and installation of telemetered wastewater flow and level monitoring solutions for the water industry.
**The Role**
The Network-Monitoring Product Development and Data Analysis sections of their business are expanding rapidly, and they now need to recruit additional software engineers to join their hardware embedded and software product development team.
- A driving interest in IoT, software development and embedded IT systems
- Experience in writing memory and processor efficient C, along with a suite of unit and integration tests to ensure their code is robust
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills coupled with a pragmatic approach
- A willingness and ability to learn new and legacy technologies in a largely independent way
- A working knowledge of operating systems, embedded real time operating systems and runtime environments
- A basic knowledge of Electronics and a foundation in Physics
- Developed embedded software dealing with real world problems on 16 and 32bit platforms
- Knowledge of I2C, SPI and UART interfaces
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with staff and customers at all levels
- A high level of numeracy and literacy
- The ability to work alone and as an integral part of a team.
- An interest in developing software that can interface with sensors, analyse data and control plant in a real world environment
**Desirable additional skills:**
- Experience with Java development
- Experience with the Windows API, specifically related to serial communication
- Experience with build tools
- Experience with GNU binutils
- Experience with hardware abstraction techniques
- Real-time embedded development (MSP430/432 / ARM / AMD64)
- Experience in writing test suites
- Experience in product development environments (JIRA, CI/CD)
- Understanding of different communication protocols (e.g. MODBUS, HEART, PROFIBUS)
- Understanding of Database Systems and handling large datasets
- Full clean (preferably) driving licence
**Responsibilities**
- Energising the Embedded Software team, focusing on the key goals whilst fostering a sense of fun and creativity.
- Lead firmware architecture discussions and decisions
- Design, Development and Delivery of all company firmware requirements
- Technical leadership within the embedded team, including external contractors when required
- Mentorship of Jnr Engineers.
**Benefits:**
- Hybrid working option, with a flexible working hours approach, you will be expected to spend some time at the Colne offices as requested by your department head
- Holidays will be 28 days per annum (including bank holidays) from January to December, extending to 33 days after 5 full years of service
