The Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust is building an Emergency General Surgery service. We are putting together a team to take on the challenge of this new and growing specialty. After a very competitive and successful Phase 1 with the appointment of 3 strong Consultant colleagues alongside 3 dedicated Emergency Nurse Practitioners and the 2 EGS middle grades, we are going out to Phase 3 appointments and are looking for 2 more consultant colleagues to join the team, to be visionary, to be a part of creating a centre of excellence from the outset. We have it all here, we just need you.
The EGS team will comprise of six new consultants, two new middle grades, five SCPs plus additional admin support staff. A team we believe will provide the foundation to drive forward evidence based emergency surgical care and create a cohesive unit with expertise in training and research. We need the right people for thiscreative, imaginative, collaborative and with dogged positivity
Full support will be in place to develop all and any subspecialty interests within job plan whether UGI, colorectal, children’s surgery or advanced endoscopy. The current Specialty Leads have built the business case and first steps but we need YOU to make the next steps happen.

Applicants are required to be on the GMC Specialist Register, or within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / EU equivalent certification at the time of interview. Applicants not on the specialist register may be considered for a locum position. Applications are welcomed from those unable to work full time for personal reasons or those wishing to job-share.
