**Volunteer Driver’s Mate**
**About the Role**
Guild Care has been making a difference to the lives of the people of Worthing and its surrounding areas since it was first established in 1933 by a small team of volunteers. Today the charity runs three care homes and over 30 community services helping over 3,000 people of all ages each year. Guild Care has 11 charity shops selling donated furniture, clothes, books and a wide selection of donated items.
Guild Care runs a free furniture collection service throughout Worthing and its surrounding areas for larger donation items. 'Driver’s Mate’ volunteers help our collection drivers with the handling of furniture, loading and unloading vans, and other general assistance. The volunteer will not need to drive. Given the physical nature of the role, we are looking for people aged 18+ who are fit and able to lift furniture safely and within our guidelines.
**What will I be doing? - Tasks & Duties**
- Accompany the team’s driver to collect donated furniture from the public
- Accompany the team’s driver to deliver purchased furniture to the public
- Work with the team to deliver and move furniture between our network of charity shops
- Keep records and complete paperwork, as directed
- Help to keep the project office, warehouse area and van(s) clean, tidy and safe
- Have a friendly manner and enjoy meeting new people
- Be guided by the service manager / driver, following their instruction and direction
- Communicate any errors or issues to the project manager / driver
- Be aware of health and safety good practice and work accordingly
- Be polite, courteous, professional and friendly to the rest of the team, customers and the public, other Guild Care staff and any visitors or guests
- Be at least 17 years old
- Be willing to attend training, team meetings and on-to-one meetings on occasions

**Times and commitment**
**Support Offered**
You will be supported by the volunteering team and the unit that you will be volunteering for. Depending on your role there will be some training that we ask that you complete. This is outlined below
