Ward Clerk

Intensive Care is looking for a hardworking motivated individual to come and join our team as a Ward Clerk.
The post holder will act as the initial point of contact for patients, visitors and callers to the ward ensuring their needs are met promptly and politely.
The successful applicant will require attention to detail, robust communication skills, the ability to work under pressure at a fast pace and enjoy working as a team.
They will assist the unit staff in the smooth running of the ward by taking responsibility for the routine administrative aspects of the unit’s organisation. You will also be responsible for keeping the wards stock of essential paperwork topped up, liaising with other departments, filing notes and keeping Medway up to date alongside various other admin tasks.
Maintain the patient records/notes using computer based data entry systems
Act as the first point of contact on the telephone for ICU queries and deal effectively with enquiries
Complete the process and dispatch discharge notes and forward patient notes appropriately
Co-operate with staff as part of the multi-disciplinary team in activities designed to extend personal knowledge and skills
Access, collect and track medical notes using the Medway Electronic Patient Information system
When collecting and recording patient data ensure it is accurate, up-to-date and complete
Be responsible for maintaining confidentiality of all patient information
Use effective communication skills to answer the telephone and give the appropriate information as required
Maintain the ward based patient records they are filed in chronological order, complete and all components are securely fixed
Assist registered nurses and medical staff to maintain admission, discharge and transfer records
Welcome patients and their relatives on their arrival to the ward
Co-operate with other clinical staff as part of the multi-disciplinary team in activities designed to extend personal knowledge and skills
Provide emotional support to patients and their relatives through effective use of communication skills, liaison with PALs and patients and public involvement forums as required
Arrange any patient follow-up appointments as requested

- GCSE Level Education or equivalent
- NVQ Level 2 - Administration or IT or equivalent
