**Be the key to saving lives**
Sussex Police has a rare opportunity for the right person to join our tight-knit team providing a 24-hour spontaneous response to guide and support operational covert policing. At times you’ll be a critical part of the decision-making process that protects vulnerable people, often in situations where there is a threat to life or of serious harm.
The Role
There’s definitely two sides to this role
One consists of really important detailed work, where the focus is on keeping our operations lawful. There’s plenty of flexibility around this part of the role so that you can achieve a good work-life balance.
The other side is where you will be providing a fast-time response (including as part of a 24/7 on-call cadre) when you will identify opportunities through technology and covert policing tactics that allow Sussex Police to, for instance, find vulnerable people whose life could be at risk.
This work is very rewarding, and you will see how your advice and knowledge contribute directly to saving lives and investigating serious crimes. You will play a key part in dynamic operational policing incidents, and could be responsible for providing that single vital nugget of information that gets a result.
**Key Responsibilities**:
The key responsibilities for this role are contained within the attached Job Description Document.
Skills & Experience
- It is absolutely essential that you have unquestioned honesty and integrity, and understand the need for confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information.
- You’ll have strong attention to detail and ability to master technical information, and at the same time be able to be creative and proactive in providing operational solutions.
- You will be able to ask the right questions and translate technical legislative matters into everyday language.
- You will have excellent communication skills and be comfortable dealing appropriately with people at all levels of the Force, including Chief Officers at times, remaining resilient and helpful but also clear and robust with officers who may be under significant operational pressure.
- You will be ready to learn and operate in a world of continuous professional development. Your manager will support you with training plans that are geared to your needs and you’ll be encouraged and supported to become an accredited and trusted expert.
- The Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act and the Investigatory Powers Act.
Further Information
The post holder:
- Will be required to be ‘management vetted’ and ‘SC vetted’ in view of the work that will be undertaken.
- Has to learn the use of many IT systems used within and outside the force and to demonstrate commitment to ongoing development.
- Must be able to attend and pass a residential course to become an accredited ‘Single Point of Contact’ for the acquisition of communications data.
- Will have the ability to assimilate and retain a full working knowledge and understanding of the structure, operational functions, procedures and policies of both the Surrey and Sussex Police Forces
- Has to be part of a 24 hour on-call rota providing cover for life-critical and urgent enquiries (on-call allowance paid).
- This is a non-confrontational role that isn't public-facing. However, it provides direct support to operational policing and you must be able to work extended or varied shifts at short notice on occasion if required, (including night working).
