Preston City Council’s Parks are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to fill the role of Assistant Head Gardener at Avenham & Miller Park.
Your primary role within this team will be Avenham’s plant nursery producing a wide range of plants/shrubs for use across Preston many Parks and open spaces. An excellent plant knowledge and experience of plant production techniques will therefore be an advantage.
You will also assist the Head Gardener in supervising the parks grounds maintenance team which covers for all aspects of horticulture, shrub pruning, plant care, grass cutting, bowling green and sports pitch maintenance, as well as the ability to create decorative flower beds, when required
Grounds maintenance work will be across highway land, public open spaces as well as listed parks where attention to detail and a commitment to strive for the best practicable standard of maintenance will be required.
The role will also involve the supervision of a team of Gardeners who are carrying out this work with you therefore experience of leading a team, planning workload and supervising staff is required.
The applicant must be willing to learn and be able to work well unsupervised or in a team. Good communication and customer service skills are also important aspects of the role.
The role will require working outdoors in all weather conditions.
A full driving license will be an essential part of the post.
