We are looking for an enthusiastic Band 3 Physiotherapy support worker to join our existing dynamic & supportive team. This is a permanent role working with the Acute Surgical and cardiothoracics Physiotherapy team at the City Campus of Nottingham University Hospitals Trust.

You will work with the support and guidance of the Physiotherapists to provide care to inpatients in the following clinical areas on a rotational basis;
- Cardiac surgery and cardiology
- Colorectal, hepatobiliary and urological surgery
- Upper GI and thoracic surgery

These roles require the successful applicants to **regularly work a weekend day**, and will also be required to participate in bank holiday rotas.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will work alongside the physiotherapists and fellow support workers who cover the surgical wards at the City campus. They will be involved in assessment, progression and discharge planning of medically stable patients, with the guidance of the physiotherapists. They will be expected to utilise rehabilitation and exercise programmes developed in conjunction with the physiotherapists.

You will be involved in the progression and discharge planning for this patient group; tasks will include gathering initial information, providing acute rehabilitation, assessing for walking aids, ordering equipment, making onward referrals to community services.

You will be responsible for your own caseload, working both individually and alongside others members of the therapy team. As well as clinical work you will also be expected to assist with administrative duties required for the running of the team, such as equipment ordering, stock management, printing or photocopying.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will be familiar with providing care to patients and working with a wide range of equipment to promote independence. You will possess excellent communication skills to motivate and encourage patients to participate in acute rehabilitation; and to develop and promote effective professional working relationships with other disciplines and members of the team.

You will be organised and capable of maintaining accurate records (patient records, stock and audit data). You will be motivated, self-directed and enjoy working as part of a supportive team. You will be expected to make referrals onto appropriate hospital and community services e.g. Occupational therapy, community physiotherapy.

- GCSE (A-C) or equivalent in English and Mathematics
