Contract length: 2 months

Pay rate: 31.71/hr

Calling all Biomedical/ Clinical Scientist in the Berkshire area CPL are partnering with a National Healthcare company who are looking for a HCPC registered Biomedical/Clinical Scientist with a well-developed specialist knowledge & skills in molecular/virologyfields. This is a Band 8b position that is expected to use specialist knowledge and skills and act with considerable autonomy in providing clinical advice on the investigation and interpretation of COVID-19 tests. The post holder is responsible for ensuringservices are delivered efficiently and to the highest possible standards. The post holder will have management responsibility for a team of laboratory staff and scientists This is initially a 2 month position.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- To independently discuss, advise and challenge clinicians, including senior staff on the performance and interpretation of COVID-19 tests
- To use specialist knowledge and judgement in relation to complex testing and reporting matters
- To set, promote and maintain the highest possible standards of scientific work appropriate for a comprehensive, efficient and cost effective COVID-19 testing service.
- To develop policies and be responsible for the provision of effective quality assurance procedures within the COVID-19 Lighthouse Testing Laboratory.
- To ensure that the professional specialist advice that may be given by technical and junior scientific staff is of an acceptable standard and in line with prevailing local and national protocols and guidelines.
- To initiate and direct scientific development, evaluation and research performed by scientific and technical staff in the department.
- To collaborate and provide specialist input with clinicians and scientists undertaking research.
- To present at professional regional or national meetings the results of original research, development and audit activity and to publish this work in reputable peer reviewed scientific journals

**Key Requirements**:
BSc, MSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent

IBMS Specialist portfolio, equivalent post graduate diploma or equivalent in depth experience in molecular/virology fields

Good grasp of Health & Safety issues, COSHH, ISO & quality issues

Experience of working at a management level

Management diploma, e.g. DMS (Desirable)

Chartered Scientist status (Desirable)

FIBMS (Desirable)

Experience of recruitment process

Supervisory & training experience

Experience of laboratory computer systems

HCPC Registration as a Biomedical/Clinical Scientist
