**Job summary**:
The Cabinet Office (CO) Security and Resilience (COSR) Team is the lead organisation for managing Security and Resilience within the Department. The remit covers providing advice, support and guidance to individuals and management units to mitigate a wide range of security-related threats and act as the central focus for wider security policy issues affecting the entire department.
We are recruiting one Security Support Officer to assist the Cabinet Office STRAP teams. The role will be based in the Glasgow office
STRAP is a regime that regulates access to sensitive intelligence material which requires more protective handling than is afforded by the standard arrangements for government assets. The Security Team is responsible for all aspects of STRAP security and higher classification IT, in conjunction with our accreditors. This dynamic team has established a reputation for excellence and high standards while delivering this critical function for the Cabinet Office.
No two days are ever the same in the Security Team's world and the successful applicant will have a great opportunity to develop their knowledge of STRAP, insider risk and decision making. Working closely with the wider Security Team and Senior Security Advisor, the post holder will get the opportunity to build their knowledge and understanding of protective security principles.
Daily tasks will require providing security support in a brand new secure environment and assisting with the mailbox. It also involves assisting with various work streams of varying priorities and delivering advice to a wide grade range of staff. This is a great opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge of the security profession.
**Job description**:
As part of a team of security professionals, you will be using your skills and expertise to:
**Key Responsibilities**
- Provide secure administrative management and control of material and environments, in order to protect highly sensitive material and maintain accreditation requirements.
- Learn to coordinate various security activities, from managing team inboxes to helping maintain important tracking systems that keep our operations running smoothly.
- Support good information management compliance in accordance with policies, procedures and government standards, in relation to access to and use of classified material and classified IT.
- Support the wider security function of protecting and securing personnel, physical and information assets.
- Manage routine security and access control secure environments in accordance with associated security standards, engaging with the authorities where required.
- Provide day to day advice and assistance to colleagues regarding sensitive material and IT systems.
- Ensure local access to sensitive information is proportionate.
- Lead on aspects of liaison with key partners across Government.
- Maintenance of accurate records of inductions/de-inductions and IT accounts.
- Conduct security briefings and familiarisation sessions for IT systems to colleagues of all grades.
- Manage access to secure meeting rooms and video conferencing facilities, liaising with partners across government regarding clearances and related matters.
- Investigate and accurately record security incidents or breaches, liaising with the security team and other partners, in order to resolve and provide informed security recommendations.
- Out of Hours/On-Call responsibilities
