**Stop Smoking Service Coordinator X2**

**Grade I**

We are seeking to recruit two Stop Smoking Service Coordinators to work within our Public Health Team. These roles will be both challenging and rewarding supporting the tobacco control agenda, working to create an approach to quitting which puts the smoker at the centre, focuses on those most in need, and works to build and maintain a multi-partner system that supports this vision.

You will support work to develop an effective system-based approach to stop smoking support in Gateshead by coordinating and streamlining pathways for Gateshead residents. Taking a lead role in ‘Helping smokers to quit’ by ensuring the service is appropriately tailored and targeted to priority population groups, as well as liaising and working with partners to promote the stop smoking service and encourage appropriate referrals. Therefore, experience of engagement work with key partners within the community is essential.

The role will involve providing specialist support, advice and guidance on stop smoking services to a range of professionals, clients, and members of the public. The ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing at all levels with a range of stakeholders is essential. Knowledge of the wider tobacco control agenda is desirable.

You will be responsible for providing high-quality, evidence-based stop smoking support through the delivery of brief advice, harm reduction support and relapse prevention techniques in both one to one and group settings. You will have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the treatments and interventions available to smokers and an understanding of human behaviour in relation to smoking. You understand the key concepts and have experience of delivering behaviour change interventions.

***

Experience of developing and delivering training to target audiences is essential. Part of your role will be to develop, deliver and evaluate training to enable providers to meet local need and reduce health inequalities and to ensure the quality of these services meet the standards as set out in the; the National Centre for Smoking Cessation and Training (NCSCT) competencies and local service specifications.

You will support the training and development of smoking advisors across Gateshead through mentorship and by disseminating key information to trained individuals to ensure service delivery is in line with current guidance. You will also be responsible for continuing to build the capacity, competency, and confidence of local people through skill development and sharing of good practice and expertise for holistic health implementation.

You will hold a relevant degree or professional qualification (NVQ level 3 minimum) or significant experience working within smoking cessation. National Centre for Smoking Cessation Training (NCSCT) Level 2 training is desirable.
