**Support Worker Job Description**

**Work Settings: Supported Accommodation/Semi Independent Accommodation for Looked after children, care leavers and Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children.**

**Working Hours**: Variable
- 7 days shift patterns
- 09:00 - 17:30 or 17:00 - next day 09:30 (including sleep in shift)

**Permanent contract - part time/full time**

**Purpose of this Role**:
To provide a support & guidance service to vulnerable young people who are looked after children, and unaccompanied asylum-seeking children, care leavers (LAC & UASCs). Identify and take appropriate actions according to their needs & requirements, in conjunction with pathway plan, support plans, other plans along with internal & external parties and agencies.
- Go through the DBS and references checked following organisation’s safer recruitment policy and procedure.
- Provide full employment and education history with satisfactory references. One must be from your most recent employer.

**Job Context**:
As a Supported Accommodation Provider, HTR Supported Accommodation work towards providing services to young people which are friendly, sensitive and supportive to the individual needs of our young people, local authorities and any other parties. It is the responsibility of all staff to work to achieve this within our expectations & ethos.

**Duties**:

- As a Support Worker, you must provide a safe, welcoming and supportive environment and culture to our young people.
- Support the manager, whilst maintaining positive practices, in line with our aims and objectives.
- Maintain regular recording system in connection with each young people.
- As a support worker, you must be involved in the implementation of Support Plan.
- Create or assist in creating Risk Assessments and Support Plans.
- Attend & support young person at reviews and planning meetings when required.
- Promote and maintain high standards of cleanliness including undertaking household duties as required, including cleaning, gardening, shopping etc.
- Ensure that safe and appropriate practices are always maintained.
- Participate in the general activities to use any personal skills to elevate the opportunity for each young person.
- Attend regular supervisions, staff meetings and training sessions as required.
- Deal with telephone enquiries and undertake administrative duties as required e.g., daily logs, accident book, incident forms etc. Maintain case files, including details of assessment plans, decisions, visits and the implementation and evaluation of action about the support plan.
- Promote young peoples’ rights and interests whilst protecting them from danger, harm, or abuse.
- To be responsible for the building during the shift.
- To advise, support, and exchange information with other staff team members.
- To be responsible for home financial administration during their shift, including petty cash, activity money, young peoples’ personal allowances, and other such budgets that require correct appropriation.
- To be responsible for organising and promoting the smooth running of their shifts, including sleep-in shifts, and waking nights.
- To challenge poor performance among other members of the staff team, should it arise, in a professional manner.
- To ensure that the environmental needs meet statutory requirements concerning Health and Safety Regulations and the National Minimum Standards, reporting directly to their line manager any concerns.

**Responsibilities**:

- Undertake the in-house induction programme upon commencing employment
- Complete allocated training including online & face to face in a timely manner.
- Be familiar with the assessed needs of each young person, and to provide appropriate support as defined in Support Plans and Risk Assessments.
- Understand and comply with all Regulatory requirements including Health & Safety, COSHH, RIDDOR and Accident/Incident reporting.
- Maintain clear and accurate records as required by the policies and procedures, and to ensure that all records are completed accurately and to acceptable standards.
- Assist young people to manage their behaviours through positive intervention
- Use the support, risk assessments, policies and procedures plan to adopt any required strategies
- Support young people to safely access facilities and activities, both in the provision and outside.
- Communicate with outside agencies inc. doctors, social workers, police etc on behalf of the young people.
- To act immediately to resolve any conflicts within the home, and to support the use of the following defined procedures including the Grievance Policy, Complaints Policy etc.
- To carry out any reasonable requests by your line manager as deemed necessary to fulfil your role of employment.
