- We are the Government’s statutory advisor for the natural environment, playing a vital role in delivering the Government’s 25 Year Environment Plan. This describes an ambitious vision, bringing new opportunities to protect and enhance, and to achieve real outcomes for the environment.

- National team roles can be carried out from any NE office, but we would prefer you to be closer to the HS2 route as the role will involve sites visits and therefore a driving licence is also desirable.- The Team
- This is an exciting opportunity to work with Natural England’s High Speed 2 (HS2) Advice Team to support the delivery of Natural England’s environmental outcomes for HS2 Phase 1. The team is working closely with HS2 Ltd to provide a high level of customer service, drawing on expertise from across NE to help ensure that likely significant environmental effects relevant to the project are understood and mitigated, and environmental opportunities are realised.
- Job description
- This is a rewarding role with great opportunities to secure positive environmental outcomes on the ground. You will work closely with the Phase 1 Project Manager to provide technical advice to HS2 Ltd and its contractors on biodiversity, including protected sites, planning and environmental assessment issues. You will work with the relevant Area and National Teams to facilitate consistent delivery on this unique national infrastructure project.
- It would be helpful to have knowledge and experience of environmental legislation and the planning system and/or a working knowledge of habitats and species. You will need to demonstrate a high level of customer service across a range of stakeholders and be confident in building and maintaining good customer relationships.
- You will draft Natural England’s responses to informal and formal consultations from HS2 Ltd, ensuring a consistent approach.
