In the role of Deputy Head of Drivers, you will be responsible for developing and implementing the industrial relations strategy for our drivers. You will play a crucial role in negotiating and implementing changes to driver terms and conditions, to ensure the smooth delivery of our train plan. In this role you will report to the Head of Drivers and deputise for them when needed, attending Driver Company Council meetings, and maintaining a positive relationship with ASLEF. You will also be responsible for briefing the wider Driver Management and Operations team on key changes and agreements.

**Your main responsibilities will include**:

- Devising the Industrial Relations strategy for Drivers.
- Supporting the Head of Drivers and Driver Optimisation Manager with the delivery of the Driver depot strategy.
- Briefing the wider team on key changes and agreements made at DCC.
- Leading on Driver safety performance by actively participating in various working groups and forums.
- Assisting the Head of Drivers with effective line management within the driver function, including implementing AWC Policies and Procedure for People Management. You will also support with HR procedures such as individual grievances and disciplinaries.
- Improving engagement with colleagues and the Union.

**To excel in this role, you should have a strong understanding of railway operations and driver management. You should also possess relevant experience in leading large operational teams. Additionally, you must have**:

- In-depth knowledge of collective bargaining processes.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to resolve disputes while maintaining positive relationships with stakeholders.
- The ability to build strong relationships with key external stakeholders and effectively influence positive change across all areas of the business.
- Strong organisational skills to professionally manage and prioritise work commitments across the team.
- Experience in building effective personal relationships with external stakeholders and involving them in decision-making processes to gain their support.
- Proven experience in leading large operational teams and effective line management.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally.
- Highly skilled in negotiation with a successful track record in handling difficult negotiations and resolving disputes.
