Homeless Prevention Officer

**Job Purpose**:
1. To ensure that clients who approach the Homelessness Service receive appropriate advice and support in order to prevent/alleviate homelessness.
2. To assist the Housing Service Team Leader in the development of strategies and schemes to prevent homelessness and to implement good practice.
3. To maintain appropriate statistical, financial and administrative records relating to homelessness prevention.
4. To assist the Housing Service Team Leader in the analysis of data associated with homelessness and its prevention.
5. To provide promotional advice and education to specific client groups at risk of homelessness.
6. Where necessary, to carry out home visits to clients that are at risk of homelessness in order to assess circumstances and provide appropriate advice, through the delivery of a flexible hours homelessness prevention service
7. Some evenings and weekends work, to enhances service provision / provide access to service where necessary.
8. Liaise with landlords and relevant agencies in order to resolve issues which could result in Homelessness.
9. To assist the Housing Service Team Leader in the allocation and monitoring of the “Homelessness Prevention Fund” in order to prevent specific cases of homelessness.
10. Where required, to investigate and assess claims of homelessness/potential homelessness in accordance with existing legislation.
11. To arrange temporary accommodation for homeless households as necessary including involvement in the emergency out-of-hours service.
12. To contribute to the implementation of the Homelessness Strategy and relevant action plans.
13. To contribute to the department’s Service Plan and ensuring that the objectives set out in the plan are achieved with effective monitoring and evaluation.
14. To provide cover and assistant in other areas of the Department as may be necessary from time to time to take account of staff absences and peaks and troughs in work programmes.
15. The above duties and responsibilities cannot totally define all of the tasks that may be required of the postholder. The duties will therefore vary from time to time without materially changing their level of responsibility.
