Operations Team Leader, Bbc Audio Technical

Job Introduction

The technical production teams within BBC Audio are responsible for audio and engineering excellence of BBC Radio’s best-loved programmes and events such as the Archers, Woman’s Hour, Glastonbury, the Proms; over 40,000 hours of audio are created by our highly-skilled teams each year.

Main Responsibilities

As one of two on site Team Leaders working in BBC Audio Technical Production (based in Dock House), you will line manage a team of operational colleagues specialising in non
- News live and recorded content for all the BBC’s major national radio networks, as well as BBC Sounds. While maintaining significant operational responsibilities yourself, you will not only lead on best practice but will also be responsible for overseeing a variety of technical spaces such as studios, workshops and edit suites to ensure they remain fit for purpose and meet the needs of our production teams. You will also act as an ambassador for your team and the department, working to deliver editorial plans in creative and cost efficient ways.

To be successful in this role, you will need the ability to manage and motivate experienced staff in a fast-changing production environment, and have highly developed interpersonal skills. You will need to demonstrate the flexibility to adapt to the emerging editorial demands of new forms of content, and play your part in helping to support the BBC’s Across The UK strategy so far as it impacts BBC Audio. You will need to have extensive operational experience with a strong appreciation of the technology and production techniques used in audio production. You will have a pro-active approach to delivering the requirements of the department and production partners within resource and financial restraints. You will also need the ability to manage change in a positive and constructive manner. Good organisational skills and a good awareness of the financial drivers within the business and of the cost and quality implications of business decisions are essential.
