BBC Radio 6 Music is a radio station for music lovers with a curious spirit. We shine a light, lend an ear and give platform to music beyond the mainstream. We are a highly distinctive network, playing and celebrating a breadth of artists and music across eras and genres. BBC Radio 6 Music is seeking to grow its audience, profile and reach of the network amongst 25-44 age group. We want to build an evolved and representative schedule defined by a curious spirit that connect us with new audiences. We aim to deepen and broaden the music we play and stories we tell on air and on demand in partnership with BBC Sounds.

Main Responsibilities
The BBC’s Across The UK plans mean there will be more programming opportunities from Salford with immediate effect. We currently produce Guy Garvey, Marc Riley, the Freakzone & Freakzone Playlist for 6 Music and Craig Charles’ House Party for Radio 2.

The Producer is responsible for all editorial content of the programme and will report to an Editor. As a Producer, you’re expected to collaborate with others to deliver creative ideas and shows to a brief set by Network.

The producer will work for BBC Audio and will be responsible for creating new ideas and pitching for new business and retaining current titles as part of the Radio Commissioning Framework
- You will have a deep interest of music, culture and audio competitors and be able to demonstrate how this translates to audiences
- You will need an interest in the BBC’s pop portfolio as well as external competitors
- Ability to bring in new ideas for formats, features and talent which respond to the network strategy
- A strong track record of talent management is essential
- You will need a creative flare for generating ideas for online content, events and interactivity.
- Passion for 6 Music, knowledge of the network and its audience with a connection to the music scene in the North of England
- You will be innovative and imaginative and your technical knowledge (including knowledge of Highlander) will be excellent and contemporary and you will be fully across recent developments in programme making methods.
- You will need an enthusiasm for radio and appreciation of how audiences use digital platforms and social media
- You will possess a sound editorial judgement
- You will also need to have excellent communication skills, both written and oral
- Ability to work flexibly and adapt to new ways of working,
- Strong and empathetic leadership skills
