Flood and Coastal Risk Management Officer

We are looking for someone to take an active role in managing our flood risk assets within a geographical area. You will help to find solutions and ensure our assets are maintained and operated safely.
You will:
- Manage maintenance and flood defence projects.
- Support our Field Operations Team in both responding to flooding incidents and in the delivery of our annual work programme.
- Assist in the continual improvement of our ways of working through the use of our Asset Management Systems
- Help maintain our ISO55000 accreditation.
The range of work is incredibly varied, so you could be planning an engineering project one day, undertaking data work the next, and liaising with contractors, local residents and partners on another. It will involve home, office and field work in Essex.
The team
Our assets are diverse: from flood and coastal defences to earth embankments, walls, pumping stations, flood storage reservoirs and sluices.
The Essex Asset Performance Team manage the whole lifecycle of these assets, from planning and creation, right through to decommission.
The Team ensures that the assets in our portfolio are inspected, assessed, maintained and operated in a safe and effective manner to reduce flood risk to people and property.
Experience/skills required
You will have good planning and organisational skills and will be effective at managing your own workload.
You'll regularly engage with customers and partners, including members of the public, therefore need effective communication skills. An ability to produce clear and concise written information and to explain technical details to a wide range of audiences is required.
It is not essential to have formal qualifications in, but experience of the following would be beneficial:
- Asset management
- identifying risks and contingency planning
- civil engineering
- project management
- data and information management (e.g. GIS)
- knowledge of undertaking works in accordance with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015
There are fully funded opportunities to develop further academic/professional qualifications.
You will also need to be willing to undertake specialist/or further training when necessary.
