Coventry, United Kingdom Coventry City Council Full time

About the team we are recruiting to
Coventry City Council’s Migration Team is an innovative and dynamic team that is focused on meeting the needs of newly arriving communities in the city and supporting integration.

The team works with internal and diverse external partners to deliver projects and other interventions based on our migrant needs assessment and other evidence related to the barriers faced by new migrants.

Coventry was one of the first cities to welcome Syrian refugees in 2014, and the team leads a partnership in delivering a resettlement programme welcoming some of the most vulnerable individuals fleeing conflict and persecution from Syria and the Middle East. Work is centred on enabling refugees to make Coventry their new home, living with dignity and respect as well as contributing positively to our vibrant and growing city.

Building on Coventry’s history of welcoming new arrivals into the city, we work towards maintaining a strategic overview of our refugee and migrant population including people seeking asylum dispersed to the city. With over £3.5m already brought into the city, from external funding we establish collaborative partnerships to maximise interventions that promote community cohesion and enable everyone to contribute towards making Coventry a place where people choose to live, learn and work.

The Migration Team celebrates diversity while also ensuring rights, opportunities and responsibilities are understood.

Projects include:

- UK Resettlement
- My Coventry
- Your Vision, Your Future
- Step and Step Forward
- Homes for Ukraine

What is the job role?
Fixed Term contract - 15 months.

As the Assistant Communications Officer, you will work closely with member of the Migration to drive our communications strategy and deliver day-to-day communications work. This includes the editing and production of newsletters, maintaining and updating our website and social media channels and engaging with our key stakeholders

A large part of the role involves working with project teams to oversee and support the delivery of project-specific communications plans. This is a wide ranging role with high autonomy in managing our communications work.

We’d ideally like you to have relevant marketing and communication experience, with a good level of producing and designing communications content; writing briefings; producing newsletters and producing website and social media content.
- Please outline the key points you would need to consider when developing communications around refugee and migrant communities?
- How would you stay informed of current events that may impact the Migration Team?
- What process would you follow to ensure all communications are error-free?

Who are we looking for?
We are looking for an individual who is passionate about supporting refugees and migrants in the City. You will require strong communication and marketing skills including:

- Strong organisational skills, tact and diplomacy in all interpersonal relationships with the public and colleagues
- Demonstrates creativity and flexibility in all aspects of communications including use of various Social media platforms
- Use own initiative when making decision to achieve goals
- Self-confidence and the ability to deal with difficult situations as well as negotiate with partners
- Demonstrates good IT literacy with the ability to learn new software packages
- Event Management Skills and the ability to recommend innovative solutions to problems while also maximising the Council's communications objectives.
- Experience of targeting and reaching a wider audience through differing multi-media channels while also developing marketing and PR materials accordingly
- Experience of working with external suppliers e.g. design agencies and contract specific pieces of work
