Research Associate in Modelling of Ccus, Bioenergy

We have an exciting opportunity in the Department of Mechanical Engineering for someone with a passion for advanced energy technology who is looking to use their skills in developing computational fluid dynamics (process simulation) models for different energy systems such as CCUS, Bioenergy and hydrogen combustion and the integration of process simulation with chemical process modelling of an energy plant. Additionally, the post holder will carry out other duties that are appropriate to the post of a Research Associate at Sheffield, for example, providing support and supervision to less experienced researchers, and actively exploring new research areas and potentials for new research funding.
You will join a friendly and welcoming team of researchers working at the new Translational Energy Research Centre (TERC); one of the largest and best-equipped zero-carbon energy, hydrogen, bioenergy, CCUS and combustion research and development facilities in Europe.
You will also be part of the wider energy research team in a large and diverse academic Department working within a team of world-leading scientists with over 50 research fellows and PhD students. The key aspects of the role include carrying out a modelling research programme investigating dynamic simulations for system optimisation and whole systems performance assessment, developing new sub-models and integrating them with process simulation and process modelling tools, and publishing work in high-quality peer-reviewed journals, and attending conferences and seminars.
Since the role involves significant collaborations with partners, you need to be willing and able to travel potentially overseas. You will also need to have a good knowledge and experience of process simulation software.
