The National Lottery funded Merthyr Tydfil ‘Snakes and Ladders' Project is an exciting and ambitious opportunity to engage young people in informing and developing mental health and wellbeing responses for young people and, thereby, increase the long-term resilience of the young people of Merthyr Tydfil.
Lead by Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council and working alongside a wide partnership of organisations across Merthyr Tydfil the initial development stage will facilitate engagement with young people across the Borough to capture their wishes and feelings to shape future Project delivery and response to young people's emotional and mental health needs.
All partners involved believe that children and young people, and where appropriate their families, should have opportunities to have their voices heard and be taken seriously in decisions that affect them. We believe this leads to better decision-making and improved services.
Safer Merthyr Tydfil and Barnardo's Cymru are excited to be offering this unique role as a Children and Young People's Engagement Worker.
The purpose of the role is:
- To support and enable children and young people, and where appropriate their families, to have a voice and influence in decision-making.
- To increase and embed the voice and influence of children and young people, and where appropriate their families, in the delivery and management of the Project.
The successful applicants will have:
- Experience of working with children and young people and where appropriate their families.
- Ability to evidence experience of active participation, engagement and influencing skills.
- An appropriate level of understanding in relation to safeguarding.
- Awareness of the emotional and mental health needs that may present for children and young people.
- Ability to listen to and communicate with children and young people.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
A current valid driving licence and the ability to provide a suitable vehicle for work are desirable.
