We are looking to recruit an Educational Fellow in Paediatrics and the Paediatric High Dependency Unit (PHDU) at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, starting in February/March 2025 for 12 months.
The post provides an excellent opportunity to develop both clinical skills in paediatric high dependency as well as educational skills. It is ideal for trainees looking for out of programme experience, for those who want to gain teaching and HDU experience post CCT, as well as those not currently in the training programme. The post provides an exciting opportunity to develop as a medical educator whilst receiving ample support through your clinical and educational supervisor. For your clinical component in PHDU you will be supervised by a paediatric intensivist and current PHDU lead, whilst for the educational component of the post you will work in close collaboration with the college tutor and consultant in charge of postgraduate education. 30% of the post is allocated to education and training, equating to around 2 days per week. 70% of the post is clinical primarily based in Paediatric High Dependency Unit (PHDU) with a full out of hours commitment. The balance between educational and clinical duties is well proportioned allowing for active progression of both clinical and educational skills.

Paediatric Department in Chelsea and Westminster Hospital
The Paediatric department is a large unit, comprising an inpatient base of over 70 beds including a 12 bedded adolescent unit, a 12 bedded HDU, a large outpatient department and Paediatric Emergency Department that sees over 45,000 children a year. There is a comprehensive community Paediatric service, which is fully integrated with the Paediatric department.
The acute paediatric service caters for over 4,000 acute admissions per year. The inpatient unit caters for a whole range of specialties, addition to acute paediatrics, including neurology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, respiratory, and cardiology as well as paediatric general and specialist surgery, trauma & orthopaedics, ENT, ophthalmology, dental and maxillofacial, craniofacial. The Trust provides tertiary paediatric cardiology, respiratory, dermatology, allergy, infectious diseases, burns, plastics and a range of other services including craniofacial and orthopaedic surgery. A full range of imaging services is on site including interventional radiology and MRI, supported by the paediatric anaesthetic team.
The post will be tailored to meet needs of the successful applicant who will work with the existing paediatric team; the posts do not cover the Neonatal Unit.
