Teaching Assistant Autism

Axcis Education are delighted to be working with a large specialist school in Blackburn who are looking for a teaching assistant to join their team on a full time, long term basis. This role would be Monday to Friday, 8.30am - 3.30pm until the February half term initially, though highly likely to be extended for the duration of the academic year. There are two separate schools on site, one which focuses upon learning difficulties and one which focuses upon autism. This position is based within the autism school, and involves working with both primary and secondary aged pupils with a range of SEND needs. The pupils are all on the autism spectrum and may also have ADHD, learning difficulties, speech and language needs, and can exhibit challenging behaviour. Personal care will be required as part of this role. The school are looking for applicants who are able to provide a mix of 1-1 support or work in small groups, who are flexible to work where required, and are able to build positive relationships with the students.
The school is based in Blackburn and is a larger than average SEND school. There is a car park onsite for those who drive, as well as good public transport links within walking distance of the school. There are fantastic facilities onsite with multiple sensory rooms available for the children to use as well as hydrotherapy pools and outdoor spaces. There is a strong team of support staff in place and the school benefits from an experienced senior leadership team.
To be considered for this role, you must have prior experience working with the SEND needs mentioned above, ideally in a school setting, though the school are willing to consider those with experience from a care or residential background due the needs of the pupils. It is most important that you have experience working with autism across the spectrum. You must have an enhanced child and adult DBS on the update service, or be prepared to get one.
