Engineering Manager

**Join us on the Journey...** We have and exciting opportunity for an **Engineering Manager** based at **Kings Ferry, Gillingham**. In this role you will effectively plan and manage all aspects of the depot engineering department in order to deliver a consistently reliable, safe, high quality and punctual service in line with specified targets,contractual obligations, and budgetary and commercial objectives.

**What you'll do...**
- Ensure that the Engineering Health, Safety and Environmental policies are upheld by vigilant monitoring, and identify and implement resolutions for any shortcomings.
- Ensure all external contractors are managed and contract performance regularly reviewed.
- Implement all local elements of the Bus Business Plan to achieve defined Balanced Scorecard targets.
- Ensure all vehicles are regularly serviced, thoroughly maintained and well presented in strict accordance with Company procedures, VOSA requirements and agreed budgets.
- Plan and operate all relevant work programmes; preventative maintenance, in line with the quality management system, cleaning, MOT, modifications and refurbishment, efficiently and effectively.
- Undertake vehicle and team quality inspections to ensure engineering maintenance work meets Company standards.Identify and implement action plans for any highlighted concerns.
- Monitor vehicle reliability and identify problems, ensuring remedial action is taken and is successful.
- Ensure that all Company equipment is tested and maintained at regular intervals.
- Ensure effective stock control systems are in place and frequent stock checks are conducted, with remedial action taken to overcome shortcomings.
- Deliver the People strategy at a local level, ensuring all employees receive appropriate training, induction, and personal development, that action plans are implemented and that all parts of the workforce are engaged and high performing.
- Manage the Engineering Supervisors and coordinate activities to ensure the provision of a reliable, high quality bus service.
- Liaise closely with Operations colleagues with particular emphasis on the prompt departure of vehicles from the garage, and the operation and auditing of the defect reporting system, ensuring all the team are aware of their obligations, the role of DVSAand the need to report any DVSA checks immediately..

**What you'll need...**
- Excellent understanding of the road passenger transport sector, including all relevant legal and external regulations and requirements for the operation of passenger carrying vehicles.
- Excellent working knowledge of all daily site procedures, engineering processes, health and safety regulations, DVSA standards, and people management practices.
- Experienced in managing and motivating a team to achieve high standards of performance in a highly unionised environment.
- Flexible approach to working hours - able to attend out-of-hours where required to meet service delivery and vehicle audits, and to be able to respond quickly to any “on-call” requirements.
- Thorough appreciation of the needs of external customers and external stakeholders, coupled with the ability to identify areas for improvement and implement effective action plans.
- Hold or working towards a national or international CPC licence or equivalent.
- IOSH or NEBOSH safety qualification.
