**Curator**
The Bear Grylls Adventure, National Exhibition Centre, Halles, Marston Green
Birmingham, B40 1PA
United Kingdom
It's not easy recreating the beauty of the deep That’s why we’re on the lookout for a Curator to lead our curatorial team and deliver the highest standards of conservation, welfare, and engagement.
Working here feels pretty unique, but also very cold, wet, challenging and rather smelly at times Therefore, we’re looking for someone who is dynamic, strives for the best and isn't afraid to swim upstream
**Do you have what it takes?**
Previous experience in managing animal collections is essential
- You’ll be a strong communicator who can lead, develop, and support our displays team in creating a centre of excellence in public aquarium management, conservation, and education
- Knowledge of complex life support systems and aquatic animal husbandry is critical, as well as your ability to problem solve and plan
- Have a good understanding of zoo licensing regulations and some project management experience
- You’ll be commercially astute and have a solid understanding of how curatorial roles fit in to and influence the wider goals and objectives of the business
- Detailed animal observation processes to ensure a safe dive operation while maintaining the highest standard of Animal Welfare
In this **full-time permanent role**, working any 5 days out of 7, you’ll find that no two days are ever the same. As the head of our displays team, you'll oversee the management and development of displays, whilst building the very highest standards of display presentation and animal husbandry. You will also work closely with the Dive Operation to ensure that animal welfare is at the forefront of guests and colleagues minds.
Using your creative vision and being an expert in your field, you’ll be able to deliver innovative animal displays, novel concepts and effective life support systems to ensure the continual development and innovation of our Ocean Tank and our “creepy crawler” displays of Tarantula’s, Scorpions, Cockroaches and Giant African Land Snails, giving our guests a compelling reason to visit and dive into the ocean tank
Through the management, organisation, and continued development of your team, you will ensure top quality care for our amazing variety of creatures, from Blacktip Reef Sharks to Humphead Wrasse and Grouper. Your processes will guarantee that all areas of our attraction constantly confirm to all current legal and company standards whilst achieving exceptional levels of customer service for all our visitors.
**What’s in it for you?**
Alongside inspiring and encouraging your curatorial team to deliver great results, you’ll also receive:
- A competitive salary (depending on experience)
- 33 days holiday including bank holidays
- 25% discount in our retail shops and restaurants
- 40% off LEGO online
- Merlin Magic Pass - giving you free tickets to all our attractions worldwide for you, your family, and friends every year
- Discounted rates at Merlin hotels all over the world
- Hotel stay discounts
- O2 discount
- Employee pricing up to 55% off cinema tickets
- Sounds pretty great, right?
Perhaps the biggest benefit of joining us, are the amazing opportunities to advance your career. Merlin Entertainments is a large, global, expanding business, with no end of curatorial, operational, or general management roles, so for an ambitious and talented individual looking to go much further with their career, we can provide the opportunities and the support to help you realise your potential.
