Join Candlelighters as an Independent Trustee and support families facing childhood cancer

At Candlelighters, our mission is to provide hope, support, and practical assistance to those navigating the challenges of childhood cancer. From emotional support to financial assistance, we strive to be a beacon of light for families in their darkest times.

Trustees play a vital role in ensuring Candlelighters achieves its core purpose by overseeing the overall management and administration of the charity. We are currently seeking an Independent Trustee to join our diverse and dedicated Board.

**Location**: Woodhouse Square, Leeds, LS3 1AD

**Time Commitment**: Quarterly trustee meetings held in the evening (in person or via Teams) with additional time required for preparation. Annual Hearts & Minds Workshop typically held as a full-day event in November. Opportunities to join sub-committees available.

**Skills and Experience**:
We are seeking individuals with skills and experience in one or more of the following areas:

- Fundraising strategy and performance
- Business Development
- Law/Legal
- Health and Safety

**Statutory Duties of a Trustee**:
As a Trustee, you will be responsible for ensuring that Candlelighters complies with its governing document, charity law, company law, and other relevant legislation or regulations. Key duties include:

- Setting strategic direction and overall policy
- Safeguarding the organization's values
- Ensuring effective administration and financial stability
- Protecting and managing charity property and funds

**Other Duties**:
In addition to statutory duties, Trustees should use their specific skills, knowledge, and experience to help the Board reach sound decisions. This will involve scrutinizing board papers, leading discussions, providing guidance, and making recommendations.
