Leeds LS QD, United Kingdom St Gemma's Hospice Full time

St Gemma's Hospice is seeking to appoint a Spiritual Welfare Trustee to join our highly skilled and experienced Board of Trustees. This is an exciting opportunity to provide strategic leadership and oversight of spiritual welfare and wellbeing for patients, families, carers, staff, and volunteers, ensuring that St Gemma's remains true to its ethos and values.

As a Trustee, you will champion spiritual care across the organisation, ensuring it is embedded in all services and meets the needs of people of all faiths and none, in line with equality and diversity principles. You will act as the link Trustee for the Spiritual Care team, chair the Spiritual Care Group, and advise the Board on matters relating to spiritual wellbeing, ethical issues, and pastoral care.

Skills and Experience

We are seeking someone who:

  • Has a strong understanding of spiritual care in healthcare or hospice settings.
  • Has experience in pastoral care, chaplaincy, or a related field.
  • Can engage with diverse faith perspectives and uphold inclusive practice.
  • Brings excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and advocate for spiritual care at Board level.

Charity governance experience would be helpful but is not essential. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds who share our commitment to St Gemma's ethos and values.

Commitment

The Board is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the Hospice and assuring good governance. The Board is supported by three Committees, Finance and Business, Clinical Governance and Corporate Governance.

Spiritual Welfare Trustees are expected to contribute their expertise to the Clinical and Academic Governance Committee and engage with aspects of our wider activities, such as Hospice visits and fundraising events.

The Board meets six times a year and the Clinical and Academic Governance Committee meets a further four times a year. Meetings take place at St Gemma's Hospice, with the option to join hybrid meetings via Video Conferencing.

Board members are volunteers but will be reimbursed for out-of-pocket expenses.
