**JOB DESCRIPTION**

**Job Title: HR Officer**

**Responsible to: Director of HR**

**Pay Band: C3 (TTO + 10 days) ** **£24,436 - £26,286**

**Hours: Full time, Monday - Friday.**

**Term time only plus 10 days**

**Main role**:
To provide clear and consistent guidance, professional support and advice to the School’s Leadership Team, School staff and Trustees across the full range of HR activity.

Will, with the Director of HR, advise and support the Leadership Team on the implementation of all HR procedures, including capability, disciplinary, grievance, redundancy and absence management

Will ensure the School meets all statutory and regulatory requirements.

Deputise for the Director of HR in their absence.

**SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Promote, support and uphold the culture and ethos of the school.
- Support HR Director and Leadership on all employee relation issues liaising with other staff as appropriate.
- Promote and support whole staff wellbeing.
- Lead on staff absence and return to work procedures.
- Manage and seek to proactively increase whole staff attendance through the attendance management procedures, including conducting sickness absence meetings and return to work meetings where appropriate.
- Analyse all information relating to staff absence, including identifying patterns and trends and initiating appropriate follow-up action.
- Seek to proactively increase staff retention by implementing and conducting thorough exit interviews with all staff.
- Undertake, present and advise investigations relating to disciplinary and grievance procedures, including presenting findings at hearings.
- Lead Payroll processes
- Effectively line manage appropriate named colleagues, offering advice, guidance, identification of appropriate training and development activities, and leading their performance management and other appraisal processes.
- Attend Hearings and HR-related Panels as required.
- Be involved with staff and trade union / professional association consultation as required.
- Manage and respond to all leave of absence requests in line with the school Managing Attendance Policy and Procedure.
- Maintain high levels of confidentiality at all times.
- Be fully conversant with current employment law and best practice in relation to schools.
- Embrace the duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of all our students.
- Provide advice and support on school reorganisations, ensuring that personnel aspects of any reorganisation are recognised and addressed.
- Be proactive and responsible for own professional development.

Working with the Director of HR:

- Support all recruitment and selection processes ensuring Safer Recruitment is followed at all times.
- Communicate all flexible working requests with the Headteacher, providing advice and guidance when requested.
- Provide advice and guidance to all line managers on Performance Management processes. Ensure all staff are regularly reviewed by their line manager as part of formal performance management or Appraisal processes.
- For complaints against a member of staff, support the appointed Investigating Officer. Provide linked advice to the Headteacher / Trustees where appropriate.
- Support the Leadership Team and Team Leaders with advice on competence and capability procedures, ensuring that these processes are conducted thoroughly, sensitively and fairly. Conducting hearings with Leadership Team or Team Leader colleagues where appropriate.
- Act as the Investigating Officer for parent/carer or third party complaints, following School policy. Provide linked advice to the Headteacher / Trustees where appropriate.
- Working with the Cover Manager to have an overview of cover requirements and impact on absence.
- Report daily any staff absence to the Cover Manager.
- Deputise for the Cover Manager in their absence.
- Investigate and deliver appropriate HR-related training to all school staff.
- Be responsible for developing and then maintaining a high profile for HR within school.
- Maintain all HR policies and procedures.
- Work with the calendar team to authorise all trips and visits.
- Ensure Health and Safety is in place for all trips and visits including risk assessments.
- Liaise with external agencies as needed (e.g. HMRC, Ofsted, Local Authority and other bodies).
- Support policy review in line with statutory regulations and guidance.
- Support on school communications and GDPR practice.
- Support with FOI requests.
