The Credit Risk team in Aldermore’s Financial Risk department plays a key role in ensuring we balance our growth with robust underwriting. You will be part of a team responsible for protecting the bank from unexpected bad debt by way of responsible lending within the Aldermore Lending Policy and Group Risk Framework. You will support the Head of Large Value Credit in the underwriting of new business proposals by managing a team of LVD underwriters and ensuring proposals are underwritten consistently in accordance with Aldermore Lending Policy and Standards.

The role of Credit Underwriter - Asset Finance Team Leader is really important to us.

The role will be based out of our Reading office however, you will be able to work a blend of both home and office each week. You’ll be made to feel part of your new team by your Line Manager, and colleagues through regular contact and virtual interaction.

What would your day look like?

Overseeing or individually assessing and recommending specific new business proposals within approval authority in relation to our Specialist Car Team - ranging from Flow sized transactions to large, complex transactions

Contributing to the development/refinement of credit strategy, policy and processes.

Assisting in the development of effective risk controls and loss management, whilst fostering a culture of continuous risk improvement and simplification without materially compromising risk profile

Undertaking people leadership and team management - hosting regular 1-2-1s, team meetings, workflow management, provide ongoing coaching to the Credit Team, overseeing and maintaining high quality lending criteria through individual quality control, career support and development, formal reviews and goal-setting, etc

Developing a network of stakeholder relationships, both internal and with the Bank’s broker panel within the specialist car group in order to continue providing excellent customer focus without compromising risk standards

Building and maintaining strong working relationship with Asset Management / Head of Specialist Vehicle Valuations to confirm suitability of assets and structure being underwritten and inherent risks specific to transactions but also understanding the market dynamics around car collaterals and how that relates to our appetite/origination and portfolio

What do we expect of you?

Extensive experience within the Asset Finance industry, preferably in the Car market

Proven experience in credit underwriting with own delegated mandate.

Proven team management experience

Experience of working within complex credit processes and systems in a regulated environment

Proven Asset Finance credit management skills, financial reporting / analytical skills and commerce with familiarity with High Net Worth Individuals or needs of directors/shareholders/entrepreneurs and high-earners

Proven experience in the analysis and presentation of complex, high value credit proposals to Credit Committee.

Experience of working to tight SLA’s and processing high volumes of new business proposals.
