Major Steps is a well established setting in the heart of St Columb Major. We currently have a nursery for under 3 year olds and a pre-school for 4-5 year olds, where we also offer out of school provision. We provide fun and stimulating opportunities for children to grow and develop, in a caring and supportive environment. A rare opportunity has arisen for an Early Years Practitioner to join our team. This will be on a Bank Staff basis to begin with, however there could be an offer of regular permanent hours in the future.
**Qualifications and Experience**:
- MUST have a minimum of a Level 2 in Early Years, Childcare and Education or equivalent
- Knowledge of the EYFS curriculum
- An understanding of safeguarding procedures
- MUST have experience with working with children that have additional needs.
- Some knowledge of Individual Education Plans, Makaton and how to implement next steps with SEN children would be an advantage as well as some understanding of visual communication aids.
**Main Purpose of the role**:
- To have a positive attitude and to act as an enthusiastic and creative role model for Major Steps.
- To provide quality play sessions for children from birth to 5 years in our nursery and 3 to 11 years in our out of school provision. This will include organising resources, implementing planning and assessment, within the Early Years Foundation Stage.
- To take on the role of key person to a number of children and to be responsible for their continued learning and development.
- To follow safeguarding procedures as set out by Cornwall Children’s Safeguarding Board to ensure the safety of children is paramount.
- To establish good working relationships with all staff members, parents/carers and other professionals.
- Work flexibly within all rooms of Major Steps Childcare.
- Use observation, planning and assessment to meet the continuous individual needs of children. Liaise with parents and other professionals to provide a holistic view of the child.
- Record keeping duties including : - children’s learning diaries, summative assessments, communication and language assessment, two year checks, Individual education plans, and planning.
- To attend staff meetings, room meetings, planning, training and fundraising activities which may occur during or outside of usual working hours.
- Understand and adhere to the settings policies.
- Prepare healthy snacks ensuring individual needs are met within our health and hygiene policies
- Be responsible for continuing and ongoing professional development and undertake training as appropriate.

**Salary**: £9.50-£9.58 per hour
Schedule:
- 10 hour shift
- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
