Role Summary

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Purchasing Buyer to join our team on a part-time basis. This 32-hour role, spread across 5 days, is based at our Washington site and involves managing purchasing activities, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring timely procurement of goods and services.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage assigned commodities, primarily indirect, and any additional responsibilities as required
- Prepare RFQs and participate in cost reduction initiatives
- Identify and assess new suppliers; develop sourcing proposals
- Negotiate costs for new parts and meet cost reduction targets
- Analyse purchasing data and prepare reports
- Monitor spend against budget and usage
- Review and negotiate contracts for goods and services
- Build strong relationships across departments to support purchasing needs
- Manage supplier performance including quality, delivery, financial health, and market position
- Escalate supplier issues to management when necessary
- Prepare monthly reports and maintain accurate documentation
- Develop product knowledge and understanding of assigned commodities
- Support departmental compliance with Quality, Environmental, and Modern Slavery policies
- Perform other duties relevant to the role

Skills & Competencies
- Excellent organisational and time management skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Effective negotiation skills with a strategic mindset
- High attention to detail and analytical thinking
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to interpret complex data
- Understanding of purchasing systems, sourcing strategies, cost reduction, material economics, FX, and benchmarking
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel

Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a purchasing role
- Experience in an automotive or manufacturing purchasing environment preferred
- CIPS Level 4 Diploma in Procurement & Supply or equivalent experience

Salary

£35000-£36000 FTE
