We are looking for a Risk & Compliance Officer to join The Economist Group Finance team. Reporting to the Director of Group Finance with one direct report, this person will lead on planning, coordinating and monitoring risk assessment processes and compliance activities across the Group.

Accountabilities:
You will:

- Plan and coordinate the Group’s risk review process and work with Business Heads to update business and group **risk registers** and track progress against action plans.
- Perform risk assessments to understand risk level, significance and scope.
- Keep up to date with, and understand, relevant laws and regulations, including in particular **Anti-Bribery and Corruption, Corporate Criminal Finance Act, Modern Slavery Act, Anti-Money Laundering**.
- Monitor compliance with laws, regulations and internal policies. Ensure that your findings are recorded and followed up with management so that issues can be rectified. Prepare and update internal policy to respond to business and legislative change.
- Educate and train employees on not only the regulations, but also the impact on the organisation if these aren't complied with.
- Investigate irregularities, instances of fraud and non-compliance issues.
- Assist the Director of Group Finance with co-ordinating the work of the outsourced **internal audit function**.
- Co-ordinate the regular maintenance, updating and testing of **Business Continuity Plans and Disaster Recovery Plans**.
- Contribute to robust and effective compliance controls within the organisation
- Assist in the gathering of internal information in response to regulatory requests and requests for information on The Economist Group’s policies from suppliers and clients, eg, in RFP processes.
- Establish and maintain a constructive and open dialogue with the **FCA** and any other appropriate authorities and to ensure that any regulatory reports or enquiries are handled appropriately and promptly.
- Ensure Senior Management and the Group’s Audit Committee are kept fully informed of all regulatory matters and also that any such developments are included within the compliance and risk framework.
- Provide guidance and advice on regulatory matters across the business.
- Assist the Director of Group Finance with managing the Group **insurance programme**.

Experience, skills and professional attributes:
To succeed in the role you will have:

- Demonstrated understanding and experience working within legislative frameworks and requirements; exposure to the media sector would be advantageous.
- Demonstrated experience in coordinating risk reviews, producing risk assessments and monitoring risk.
- Demonstrated ability in conducting high quality internal compliance audits and reviews and working with internal audit.
- Excellent written skills and demonstrated ability to prepare professional briefs, summaries and reports
- Ability to convert complex legislation or information into plain language
- Ability to work autonomously, as part of a team and in co-ordination with other business areas
