This position is responsible for monitoring the on premises SQL servers to ensure continuity of service and performance and providing an escalation point for the helpdesk team for database and reporting issues. This should be in the form of identifying and documenting solutions to add to the helpdesk knowledge base, removing the need for the issue to be escalated should it arise again.

Key Responsibilities
- Monitor SQL servers to ensure service continuity and acceptable performance, utilise and improve existing monitoring and trend analysis tools, deal with issues that arise, escalating where necessary
- Predict upcoming issues based on known resource allocation and trends, identify actions which can be taken to avoid issues
- Proactively promote the value and availability of centralised data capture, processing and reporting solutions, discourage the use of Excel for purposes other than the presentation of data
- Provide second line support for the helpdesk documenting solutions for adding to their knowledge base where possible
- SQL Scripting:

- Create SQL Stored Procedures, function, views, etc.
- Analyse dependant objects in order to be able to make changes safely
- Follow scripting styles and practices to ensure scripts are easily maintained by any member of the team
- Database Performance Tuning:

- Analyse the performance of all UK SQL servers
- Identify transactions running more slowly that desired and improve the performance of those transactions
- SSRS Design:

- Use Grouping and aggregation
- Use Javascript embedded in hyperlinks
- Create and modify custom functions
- Control static rows and columns (Freeze panes)
- Use conditional formatting and conditional visibility
- Work with hierarchical parameters / dimensions
- Produce/modify reports based on SQL and DMX queries

Qualifications
- Experience of monitoring SQL Server Performance and making improvements where required
- Experience of monitoring SQL server agent jobs and addressing issues which arise
- Minimum HND in Computer Science
