We are seeking to recruit a 12-month full-time Research Project Support Officer working in the College of Natural Sciences with the post based in the Centre for Environmental Biotechnology, to work on the project entitled “Wales Public Health Surveillance Programme” which is funded by the Welsh Government.

The project aims to evaluate how wastewater can be used for public health surveillance in Wales. Wastewater can be used for the surveillance of a range of diseases (e.g. influenza, covid-19), illicit drug use, alcohol consumption as well as providing information on other indicators of human health and societal wellbeing. We are looking to recruit a research and administration to help support the programme, the research team and the dissemination of its results. The project is being led by Bangor University (Prof. Davey Jones) in collaboration with Cardiff University and Public Health Wales.

The appointee will report directly to Prof Davey Jones and liaise with project staff and other partner organisations as and when required. Duties will mainly involve help support the activities of Prof Davey Jones and the project team. The activities will be varied but are likely to include; project report writing, undertaking scientific literature searches, attending and recording meetings, organising workflows, liaising with the finance and human resources department, helping to coordinate dissemination activities and liaising with project partners and stakeholders to gather reporting information.

Purpose of the Job

This is a 12-month position, funded by the Welsh Government Public Health Surveillance Programme. The post will provide administrative and research support to Prof. Davey Jones and will focus on helping to run and publicise ongoing activities within the national programme. The post will also require working closely with staff involved in the projects

Main

**Responsibilities**:

- Publicise the activities of the research group through a range of media channels (e.g. Twitter, newsletters, reports).- Help collate information that supports research activities and impact within the programme.- To liaise with all co-investigators and members of ongoing research projects. This will include working together as a team as and when required.- Organise meetings, draft agendas, preparing papers, taking minutes and circulating as appropriate.- Manage the diary of Prof. Davey Jones, arranging all appointments, travel arrangements and manage the meeting schedule.- Receiving, sorting and dealing with all correspondence, advising the wider project team as to the urgency of the item and ensuring that action is taken.- Liaising with internal and external contacts and visitors, acting as a first point of contact and where appropriate deal with enquiries on behalf of the project team.- Maintain a high level of confidentiality and discretion at all times.- To provide support to the research team in the gathering and analysis of data. This could include; taking part in scientific literature searches / gathering data and information from focus groups / assist in the design and implementation of research / assisting in the statistical analyses of data.- To work as part of the research team in delivering research outcomes. This could include: contributing towards the creation of reports and publication in research journals / helping in the preparation of materials for presentation to conferences / supporting the research team in the presentation of research outcomes to internal and external stakeholders as part of knowledge transfer / taking part in the organisation of events and seminars to disseminate information.- To assist and support in the administration of the research project.
