**Job summary**:
- We are recruiting a Senior Research Officer to work on international relations and trade.
- The post is located in the External and Constitutional Affairs research team which leads on work mainstreaming, international, constitutional and legal affairs, across the work of the Senedd, its Members and committees and helps support the scrutiny of justice issues. This is an exciting opportunity to work in the Senedd at a pivotal time in the evolution of role of the Senedd in international affairs.- Senedd Research provides independent specialist parliamentary research to all Members of the Senedd to ensure they are able to support their constituents and participate in Senedd business.
- As a Senior Research Officer, you will be involved in all aspects of research support, including preparing briefing for individual Members and party groups, supporting Senedd Committees and preparing digital content, for example in the form of research articles and research briefings for Members and the public.
- You will have excellent written and oral communication skills, the ability to work to tight deadlines, and be comfortable working on new policy areas. You will support the Team Leader in providing support to post-Brexit Senedd EU Engagement activity.- The role provides opportunities for external engagement and collaborative working with other legislatures, institutions and stakeholders both in the UK and internationally.

You will support the team leader across all areas the team is responsible for and have some staff line management responsibilities. You will be expected to manage PhD student internships as required.
We are looking for someone who has excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills; working proactively and able to plan and organise your own work; A strong networker and communicator, able to liaise with internal and external colleagues to effectively build relationships. You should have experience of managing people and taking responsibility for effective decision making in a changing environment.
**Key tasks**:
- Supporting the provision of timely, high quality and impartial briefings and analysis on international relations, international trade and UK-EU affairs and other policy areas within the team’s constitutional remit as required.
- Developing effective relationships with Members of the Senedd and their staff to win their trust and confidence, and working collaboratively with colleagues from across the Senedd, external stakeholders, academics and information providers.
- Producing engaging proactive content and working within the Service’s editorial process. This includes writing research briefings and research articles on relevant topics to help contribute to open and well informed debate, and supporting the publication and promotion of external content through social media.
- To work across the service to identify opportunities for improving services to Members of the Senedd, using your expertise to identify cross cutting themes and to provide direction, advice and support to others.
- Developing and maintaining digital skills and expertise to improve the information available to Members of the Senedd and the wider public.
- Working with stakeholders to develop a network of expertise, identifying opportunities to work with academics and other knowledge mobilisers so that Members of the Senedd have access to a wide range of evidence.
- You will also be expected to support other aspects of the work of the Business Directorate from time to time, giving you variety and understanding of the wider work of the Directorate.
