Associate Lecturer in Games Technical Art

**About the role**
As part of our investment into the Games Institute, we are looking to recruit an Associate Lecturer in Games Technical Art. The Associate Lecturer post is an opportunity to undertake a fully funded PhD alongside a 0.5FTE lecturing contract. If successful, you will join a supportive community of early career researchers and academics in one of the top Games units in the world.
At Staffordshire University, we're dedicated to fostering excellence in games education. We are members of Ukie (UK Interactive Entertainment) and proudly host their student conference. Our accolades include being recognized as the TIGA Best Games Insitutiton, the Top Games Department in the UK by the Rookies Global League Table 2023, and we are multiple TIGA industry awards winners, including Best Educational Initiative for our 1UP placement scheme. This scheme employs over 30 students to run our in-house games studio, which produced the award-winning arcade game MechHead. As a Women in Games partner institution, we are committed to promoting gender diversity in the gaming sector.
Your teaching will focus on Technical Art and Design modules but may include other areas of provision where appropriate. You will also supervise final-year projects and help prepare students for their post-university careers.
In addition to your teaching and scholarship, you will be involved in recruitment activities, including open days and portfolio reviews. You will also contribute to community engagement, including schools, colleges and local industry. The institution works closely with the local community and has a strong civic engagement portfolio. You will also be expected to support and help us innovate our ongoing recruitment activities.
**Main Responsibilities**
The main responsibilities of our Associate Lecturer in Games Technical Design will be to:
- To deliver teaching and teaching support (and other feedback support sessions)
- To contribute to the preparation for teaching and marking of assignments and examinations
- To provide administration for module delivery to include attendance monitoring and module evaluation
- To provide personal tutor support to students
- To participate in the development of innovative teaching and learning strategies
**About the Department**
As a member of the academic staff, you’ll have the opportunity to work in a bustling campus with access to a range of sector-leading technologies. Our resources include over 500 games development workstations, 200 Wacom tablets, and a range of cameras, motion capture equipment, and cutting-edge virtual reality systems. We are also the home of the UK’s Epic Games Centre. We also run a number of exciting student opportunities, such as our award-winning 1UP scheme, which employs students to work for our in-house studio.
The department is part of the wider School of Digital, Technologies and Arts. The school is a highly interdisciplinary environment, bringing together areas as diverse as fine art, fashion, computing, engineering, media, theatre and various aspects of games production. You will get to work with like-minded individuals who will support and encourage your career development. This will include mentorship, research support, and guidance towards achieving HEA fellowship if you do not already hold this.
