An exciting opportunity has arisen for the role of Public Health Specialist, for our ‘Start Well’ agenda leading on 0-19 services, infant feeding, child poverty and infant mortality. This role will be part of the extended leadership team.

This role is integral to the Public Health team and holds responsibility for delivering key aspects of the Local Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2023-2028, which will help to improve health outcomes and reduce inequalities. The successful post holder will provide public health leadership to the commissioning and contract management of Start well services. The post holder will lead on key strategic projects and partnership working, managing and leading on grants and commissions for infant feeding, child poverty and infant mortality. The post will also be a key link with our successful Family Hub and Start For Life programme.

You will join our passionate Public Health Team, providing new and exciting opportunities for innovation and collaboration across the broader system. You will require the ability to work proactively and to a high standard under pressure. You will have significant budget/financial experience and be able to work with a high degree of autonomy and lead a small team. You will have significant and broad experience of public health, however, an in-depth understanding of issues surrounding Start Well will also be important.

The successful applicant will work strategically and collaboratively with other Blackburn with Darwen Council Departments, in particular Children’s Services, and alongside a wide variety of stakeholders including elected members, voluntary, community and faith sector organisations and NHS partners.
