Buying Specialist

We are currently seeking a Buying Specialist to work on a hybrid basis within our Crawley business unti.

**Job Summary**:
Responsible for providing Supply Chain-Procurement support to various internal programs/projects, internal business organizations/customers, as well as interface with external supply sources.

**Responsibilities**:

- Works independently, but as part of a global Supply Chain team and applies procurement concepts and principles to work assignments.
- Reviews Purchase Requisitions received from multiple internal business units for process compliance and supplier suitability; before processing them into the Purchase Orders system for issue to suppliers, ensuring that all corporate guidelines and practices are adhered to.
- Information Management - Uses various software packages to accurately maintain and update documents and records, as defined by corporate processes.
- May evaluate bids in collaboration with sourcing, select and/or recommend suppliers, negotiate price, delivery, quality and service, in order to assist in achieving program goals.
- Negotiates and settles with suppliers regarding rejections, losses, return of materials, over shipments, cancellations and engineering changes.
- Contributes towards developing solutions to a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity. Refers to policies and practices for guidance. Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
- May confer with vendors to determine factors that affect competitive total cost of ownership consistent with quality, reliability, and ability to meet required schedules.
- Contribute towards corporate cost saving goals, using competition, negotiation and/or cost avoidance.
- Acquire and develop a basic technical understanding of the products, solutions and services that are purchased from a wide ranging supplier base.
- Interfaces with the accounting department, as required, to help resolve questions on supplier invoices, which may conflict with Purchase Order scope.
- Responsible for maintaining their own required corporate training and certifications as applicable.
- Maintain a high level of internal customer care and service orientation, by building strong relationships with all internal stakeholders.
- Responsible to manage and prioritize workload to achieve business goals.
- A small amount of travel may be required.

**Required Experience**:

- Bachelor's Degree with relevant experience is required. In the absence of a degree, extensive relevant work experience is required.
- Must be able to analyse and document both price and sourcing decisions, to create documents and to maintain precise records utilizing Microsoft Word and Excel. Must have experience of using automated software to generate Purchase Orders.
- Must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of staff and management.
- Must be self-motivated and demonstrate ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, with a willingness to back-up and support global team members, as necessary.
- Must understand the difference between what is defined as a commodity item, service or resource and tangible and non-tangible items.
