As a Deputy Ward Manager, you will have previous experience in a similar setting as a Nurse, and have excellent knowledge in healthcare and managing people. You will be leading the nursing team and coordinating the wards to ensure procedures are being followedand a safe environment is maintained.
You will have the responsibility for the day to day operational management of their allocated ward, this includes staff cover, the implementation of policies and procedures and liaison with estates and hotel services to ensure the ward operates effectively.

You will act as the senior nurse manager for the ward, liaising with wider members of the MDT to ensure care packages are effectively delivered, representing the ward at MDTs and management meetings and positively promoting the ward with external agenciesand commissioners.

**Your responsibilities will include**:

- Ensure a safe and effective duty rota for the ward nursing team, exploring safe provision of the service through skill-mix review, allocation of workload and allocation of staff.
- Ensure the timely and appropriate admission and discharge of patients.
- To investigate complaints and untoward incidents occurring on the ward and compile responses and action plans. Ensure all untoward incidents are reported through the IR1 Reporting System and action accordingly.
- To ensure that all policies, procedures, guidelines and work instructions that relate to the wards are regularly reviewed and updated if required.
- Undertake a unit wide role when on duty in terms of ensuring the overall cover for the hospital and providing senior clinical nurse advice and support on issues as they arise.
- Actively participate in the recruitment and selection process for nurses within Elysium Healthcare.
- To work closely with the Consultants for the achievement of effective patient management ensuring that individual consultant care protocols are followed.
- To work closely with MDTs to ensure they are able to deliver their part of the treatment pathway effectively and where there are issues that may prevent this, they are communicated effectively and solutions found.
- To develop clinical audit topics and service evaluations that can be used to promote the success of the unit and ensure high clinical standards.

**To be successful in this role, you will**:

- To be a qualified RMN/RNLD/RGN
- To have worked at a senior level for a minimum of 2 years within a mental health setting.
- Experience of managing a team
- Ability to take responsibility for daily operational ward management
- Up to date on current nursing practice
- Evidence of on-going professional development
- Effective leadership and people management skills
- Excellent communication skills: verbal and written
- Ward budget/resource management**
